Shopping at the Bellagio Las Vegas

via_bellagio_shop_balloons_500The greatest thing about shopping in Las Vegas is that you can buy whatever you want, while wearing whatever you want. You can wear an evening gown to the two-dollar t-shirt store and no one will look twice at you, and you can wear a dirty t-shirt and flip-flops the Prada store and not worry about being kicked out, Pretty-Woman style. No place is this more noticeable than at the shops at Bellagio.

A few five-star, five-diamond, five-thumbs-up hotels dot the Las Vegas Strip, including the Wynn, Encore, Bellagio, and CityCenter hotels. But the Bellagio was the first, and remains the most famous. While the others are a bit more difficult to get to, the Bellagio is in the dead center of the action, and draws a huge crowd every half hour with its world-famous fountains. The lobby, situated under two thousand hand-blown glass flowers, and the botanical gardens, completely re-imagined with each season, attract their own crowds as well. All this fame has at least one really interesting result: High-end luxury and stunning architecture, visited by everyone, from everywhere. Well-dressed Italians, interestingly-dressed French, flocks of Japanese, posses of Persians, and every kind of American you'd want to see are walking around here, taking pictures. It's fascinating. The Bellagio goes in a little bit more for art more than for shops, so you won't find a 200-store colossus here. What you will find is a strong representation of the world's current top luxury brands, populated by people from every kind of economic background. Here, an English executive will shop for a gift for his wife next to a girl in cutoffs and secondhand shoes.

A promenade with a high glass ceiling and an insider's view of the fountains stretches from one corner of the man-made lake to the other. This is the central shopping area for the Bellagio. You'll find brands like Gucci, Bottega Venata, Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, and Las Vegas' first Tiffany & Co, among others. The walkway is airy and cheerful, decorated with fine art every few feet, and polished marble rises high overhead to the art-noveau skylights.

Over by the conservatory, a few Bellagio-specific shops outline the botanical gardens:

  • Dale Chihuly- the artist responsible for the stunning, immersive glass butterflies on the lobby ceiling, has his own store. Glass sculptures, original drawings, and extensive books and videos can all be taken home.
  • Giardini Garden Store- This store features fountains by WET Design, who created the Bellagio’s lake fountain show. It’s also a decorative garden store.
  • Essentials- It's the hotel shop, made unique by offering the Bellagio's own fragrance and one-of-a-kind clothes and accessories.

The Pool Promenade offers its own collection of high-fashion stores, for a more relaxed lifestyle.

  • BGFA/ the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art Store- next to Las Vegas' most famous art gallery, the store offers exhibition related products and novelty items.
  • Capri- top of the line styles, gathered together into one lifestyle store.
  • D. FINE- the best men’s tailored clothes.

The shops at Bellagio are interesting places in an interesting city. Come to see the luxury, but stay to see the huge cross-section of people that parades by here.
